The dudes of Led Zeppelin were deeply influenced by the blues, a peculiarly American form of music that is based on the premise that life's intrinsic suffering can be ameliorated by beautiful sounding yet mournfully expressed chordal relationships, rhythms and vocalizations. These blues-borne aesthetics beckon listeners with the knowing realization that there is more to life than what's on the surface. If such esoteric knowledge is something you crave dear reader—and who doesn't these days when autumn tilts full swing toward the November elections—then check out the Madrid Blues Festival, happening Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Oscar Huber Memorial Ball Park in Madrid, N.M.
