Sinae Kang gives a power-point presentation exploring Christina Rossetti’s poem.

There is a reason why a poem written in 1859 is still relevant in 2016. Such a poem is Christina Rossetti’s GOBLIN MARKET. And on Wednesday, October 12th, Sinae Kang from the University of New Mexico will give a free power-point presentation exploring Rossetti’s poem, delineating the world in which she lived, and offering some reasons for its on-going allure.

The story of two sisters, one who will risk everything to save the other, speaks to the lasting bonds of sisterhood. This idea has taken on new and broader meanings since the rise of feminism and the poem speaks to us today through many different interpretations, including gender relationships and addiction, that perhaps even Rossetti could not anticipate.

This event will occur at the Aux Dog Performing Arts Space, 3011-3013 Monte Vista NE, starting at 6:30 pm. A reception will follow. This presentation is in conjunction with a dramatic musical fantasy of the poem that opens at the Aux Dog on Friday, October 21st at 8 pm.

Join us for this provocative and insightful look at one the Western Literature’s most enduring creations—GOBLIN MARKET by Christina Rossetti. Please call ahead for reservations at (505) 254-7716.

If you want to receive a free copy of GOBLIN MARKET, send an email to and put “poem” in the subject line. We will email you the poem with various illustrations created over the past 150+ years from her brother, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, to Playboy magazine!
