An Éire-y Sound

Ever wanted to see Stephen Spielberg's doppelganger shredding the guitar in an Irish band? Now is your chance. On Friday, March 17, instead of celebrating St. Patrick's day like a drunken fool, head to Popejoy Hall to experience Altan, a traditional Irish band featuring the special sounds of County Donegal. Lose yourself in the sweet voice of Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh—considered to be one of the greatest female vocalist from Ireland. (Take that, Sinéad O'Connor!) Tickets are $20-$54 for this one-night event. And if you're not a one-or-the-other kind of person, I'm sure there'll still be time after the 8pm show to grab a Guinness or two and sing a rousing rendition of “Whiskey in the Jar” at the top of your lungs. Sláinte! (Renée Chavez)
