Featuring collage and mixed media works by Tijeras artist April Fletcher. Runs through 4/29.
Blue Lily Atelier presents the exhibit “From Papyrus to Cotton Rag: the Origins of Paper and its Uses in Art Today” in April, featuring collage and mixed media works by Tijeras artist April Fletcher. The exhibit runs from April 6 through April 29.
The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, April 7, 5-8 pm. At 6 pm, the artist will present a talk and show samples of materials that people have written on and/or used in art from around 3,000 BCE to the present. Light refreshments will be served.
April Fletcher retired in 2010 from a 32-year career as an environmental biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The artist works primarily in collage and mixed media and her pieces incorporate natural elements and/or images of nature. In most of her works she strives to capture the feeling of an environment or element of nature rather than representational accuracy. Fletcher's art uses various kinds of art papers, natural plant materials (which she collects and presses herself, and sometimes paints to maintain color), acrylic paint, and enamel spray paints on gesso board backing.
The reception is open to the public and free of charge. For more information, visit www.bluelilyatelier.com
