Fly huge carp-shaped streamers outside the Japanese garden house and view display dolls of famous warriors and other heroes inside.

Celebrate children at this special event in the Japanese Garden.

Children's Day, founded as a national holiday in the United States in 1948, has been celebrated in Japan since ancient times. It is a day for families to celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of children. On Children's Day, families fly huge carp-shaped streamers (koinobori) outside the house and display dolls of famous warriors and other heroes inside. The carp was chosen because it symbolizes strength and success; according to a Chinese legend, a carp swam upstream to become a dragon. In honor of the day, the ABQ BioPark will be making koi kites in the Japanese Garden.
