Former senior scientist of Sandia National Labs Robert Glass shows his abstract steel artwork and painter Alexis Kaminsky displays her basic geometric abstract pieces.
In 2013, Robert Glass stepped down from his position as Senior Scientist at Sandia and began creating art driven by experimental discovery. Working in steel, Glass lets the creative process grow and evolve. With every new piece, each experiment influences the next. The finished sculptures are elegant abstracts suggesting totems and plant forms.
Alexis Kaminsky likes the simplicity and infinite combinability of basic geometric forms. Her patterns work with and against the rigidity of grids. After bisquing several kiln-loads of her ceramic geometric shapes she combines and rearranges them like Legos until she’s satisfied. She then applies a finish using acrylics and oils mixed with cold wax and adheres the finished pieces to shaped backings. Kaminsky’s new work embraces the desert landscape she calls home, a landscape that, like art, brings solace to her soul.
