Albuquerque Beer: Duke City History on Tap
Reading Double
I don't usually recommend reading. Books are an inferior form of media, as I am wont to say. Therefore, it is with a heaviness upon my breast that I break with tradition and suggest—in the most reserved fashion, of course—that those who thirst for something headier than knowledge to pay a visit to Page One Bookstore this Saturday, July 8, for a discussion about Chris Jackson's book, Albuquerque Beer: Duke City History on Tap. This free, all-ages event starts at 4pm and promises to quench your thirst for … reading. (Joshua Lee)

FREELANCE WRITER/WEBSITE CO-FOUNDER TALKS BEER 4 PM SATURDAY, JULY 8, AT PAGE ONE
Chris Jackson, freelance writer and follower of Albuquerque breweries, will be at Page One Books 4:00 pm Saturday, July 8, to talk about and sign his nonfiction effort, "Albuquerque Beer: Duke City History on Tap."
The book is described as such: "Albuquerque's commercial brewing scene dates back to 1888, when the Southwestern Brewery & Ice Company was launched. It later churned out thirty thousand barrels of beer per year and distributed throughout the region. Nearly 30 years later, Prohibition halted brewing save for a brief comeback in the late 1930s. In 1993, the modern era emerged with a handful of breweries opening across the city. However, Marble Brewery's 2008 opening revived Albuquerque's dormant craft beer scene. Since its opening, the city has welcomed dozens of breweries, brewpubs and taprooms. Writer Chris Jackson recounts the hoppy history of brewing in the Duke City."
Jackson is a writer, beer lover, sports fanatic and metalhead living in his hometown of Albuquerque. He has worked as a freelance writer for the "Albuquerque Journal," the "Sports Xchange," MiLB.com, "Lindy's Magazine," and more. Jackson is one of the founders of the NM Dark Side Brew Crew, an online community of beer-loving writers, in 2012, chronicling the explosive growth of the breweries in Albuquerque and the surrounding area.
Page One Books is located at 5850 Eubank Blvd NE, Suite B-41, in Albuquerque's Mountain Run Shopping Center (southeast corner of Eubank and Juan Tabo). The Jackson event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call 294-2026 or visit www.page1book.com.
