Mark White Fine Art is pleased and excited to announce a new body of paintings by gallery artist Mark White. The exhibition is collectively titled My World and Welcome to It, on view at the historic Canyon Road gallery from July 7-August 26, 2017. In richly hued oils, White manifests both gently abstracted and wholly truthful visions of nature, in which recognizable entities recede or dissolve into bewitching color. In many ways, Mark's latest series contains elements of past creative pursuits. A predilection for vibrant color, visible brushstrokes, and meditative compositional structure is nothing new for this painter; on the other hand, Mark's focus on the romance and drama of the Southwestern landscape, with its soaring mesas, burning sunsets, and vivid color, represent a special focus. For this latest group of paintings, Mark experimented with a variety of artistic surfaces - from canvas to linen to wood panel - to explore relationships with texture and light. Ranging from beguiling open vistas, capped by billowy, densely hued clouds, to more abstracted works featuring striated bands of crimson and shimmering gold, Mark's newest paintings are both strikingly unique and effortlessly cohesive.
For White, painting offers an intimate communion with time and nature, a respite from the world of structure and fixed spaces; often, suggestion is more important than strict definition, heightening the viewer's curiosity and capacity for individual interpretation.
