Jack DeJohnette, post-bop jazz saxophonist Ravi Coltrane performs with Adam Rogers on guitar, Dezron Douglas on bass and EJ Strickland on drums.
Praised for his music's "elusive beauty" (DownBeat), and for his "style informed by tradition but not encumbered by it" (Philadelphia City Paper), Coltrane has fronted a variety of jazz lineups, recorded six critically-hailed albums as leader, produced recordings by other artists, overseen important jazz reissues, and founded the prominent independent record label, RKM. The second son of the legendary John and Alice Coltrane, he was named after Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar and has become critically acclaimed in his own right, earning several Grammy nominations and playing alongside a virtual who's who of jazz, including his father's drummer of the 1960's, Elvin Jones, McCoy Tyner, Pharoah Sanders, Carlos Santana, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, and Branford Marsalis. His 2009 CD, Blending Times, solidified his standing as one of today's most innovative jazz artists/improvisers and his 2012 release, Spirit Fiction - his Blue Note Records debut- was called "inspired" by the Washington Post. Most recently, he received a 2017 Grammy nomination for Best Improvised Jazz Solo Performance from his work with legendary drummer, Jack DeJohnette and bassist, Matt Garrison, on their 2016 ECM trio album, In Movement. $35/$30 Members & Students (no member passes)
The Guild Cinema will be screening the film, Chasing Trane, the definitive documentary film about the legendary saxophonist, John Coltrane, July 16-18. Outpost Members pay only $5 for all jazz related movie screenings at The Guild!
