Brewgrass Revival

We are living in a bleak era for country music. Radio waves are dominated by the so-called “bro-country” that, despite its commercial success, is much-maligned by country-heads and country-haters alike. Thankfully, by shedding the generic and pop-oriented industry norms in favor of a return to the rawness and emotion of country’s roots, the creative minds behind Marble Brewery’s Bluegrass Festival have arrived in the nick of time to salvage the genre’s reputation. The festival, which takes place this Sunday, July 16, features a variety of talent showcasing the diversity inherent to bluegrass and country music, with each of the four featured bands representing a distinct niche of the broader genre. Closers Palomino Shakedown seep influence from soul and jazz music, while Moonshine Blind exhibits their own inspiration from Irish bluegrass courtesy of some frenetic fiddle-playing. The festival also does its part in promoting the music community of New Mexico through Santa Fe locals Cloacasavant-garde brand of acoustic folk and Albuquerque’s own Dirty Brown Jug Band’s high-energy and rock-infused “outlaw country.” Performances start at 2pm, and this 21+ event is totally free of charge. Nothing says bluegrass like some dancing feet, so take advantage of this generosity by being liberal at the bar and get them toes tappin’! (Adam Wood)
