All Too Short a Date
It's true, the season wanes. But before the limitless sunshine fades into a cold and cloudy autumnal age, have one more go at Summerfest, the Duke City's free musical answer to all that ails ye. The final iteration of this longtime Albuquerque tradition takes place on Saturday, Aug. 26. The event—which also spotlights a market with local, handmade goods for sale, children's activities, a microbrew garden and heaps of happening food trucks—features rocanrol legend Chubby Checker, a performer whose dynamism and damn good tuneage made him a favorite with generations of Americans. Checker and his band the Wildcats will be twistin' the night away beginning at 9pm, but there'll also be sets by local musicos, including The People, Melanie Anne and The Real Matt Jones. Summerfest is free, open from 5-10:30pm to all ages, but if you bring your perrito querido, remember that a leash is required.
