Japanese Fall Festival: Aki Matsuri

Fall Fun

Aki Matsuri is the traditional Japanese fall festival. On Sept. 17, the New Mexico Japanese American Citizen League host their food-and-fun-filled interpretation of this annual event at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. This year's theme is “Takumi: The Way of the Japanese Craftsman.” The day's events include traditional musical performances, folkloric dance pieces, martial arts displays, authentic cuisine, sake tastings and—if past incarnations are any guide—plenty of teenagers dressed up as anime characters. Admission is $5. (Devin O'Leary)
