In the Christian ecclesiastical tradition, Christmas is a 12 day celebration that ends with the day when followers of Christ say 3 wise men from the east appeared at his birth site, laden with gifts after the holy birth. This last day of Christmas, celebrated especially in Mexico, has European roots that are also expressed here in New Mexico by many families who don't open gifts until the last day of Advent. This year, Polyphony: Voices of New Mexico—a new professional choral ensemble—present a performance of some of the great sacred baroque works of the season, including Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Parts I & III, as well as part one of Handel's Messiah. Members of Chatter ABQ are featured as instrumentalists. Bringing a joyful end to a time of year is just what this concert intends to do for just $10 to $35. Let the music do its magic on Friday, Jan. 5.
