Navidad del Sur
Make your holiday season just a bit merrier—and get with the local culture, ese—by including long-evolving and heartfelt aesthetics from the Southwest and south of the border. No matter what other customary celebrations you have in mind, a Mexican-themed Christmas will certainly add to the season's frivolity and fancy fun. On Sunday, Dec. 17, participants can get a load of what drives Santa's sleigh in this part of the world; the annual Mariachi Christmas is held at Popejoy Hall. This year's performers include the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's Ballet Folklorico as well as Mariachi Aztlan, one of the brassiest and most bonafide of the bandas Mexicanas making their rounds in the Southwest today. Taken all together, the concert and dance performance should continue to be one of our burg's most enchanting and enduring seasonal symbols of multiculturalism and musical mojo. $20 to $61.
