See the series produced by artist John Connell, made from 1976 to 1982. Runs through 12/15.
The artist John Connell drew throughout his life, and considered his drawings central to his work—not simply as studies, but as complete, finished works in themselves.
From around 1976-1982 he produced a series of drawings titled Pin-ups of North America. The series began while he was living in New Mexico, and seems to have ended while he was living in California. These pieces reflect an alternative version of what the American experience truly is: Taoist bums mixing with hummingbirds, Sir Francis Drake and Jesus, roosting herons and Crazy Horse, vegetables and pick-up trucks, Audobon and Brother Timothy.
“And so, in speaking of humanity being eternal, we mean by implication that each separate human entity is eternal. If it were not, humanity would be a fiction! So? What’s new?” —John Connell, notebooks
