A comedic and magical exploration of what happens when we don’t know what to do next.
PIE is a comedic and magical exploration of what happens when we don’t know what to do next.
"Wes Anderson meets Salvador Dali!"
Is "Pie" essentially the "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" version of "Waitress”?
THE PLAY begins as four armchair experts arrive at a panel discussion, only to find that the moderator is a no-show. As tensions rise in a series of Rube Goldbergian accidents, the mundane collides with the celestial and the panelists’ uncensored alter-egos are unleashed. A skewed history of the Universe then unravels, from moments before the Big Bang to the electronic baroque of today.
"IF YOU WANT to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the Universe." This quote from Carl Sagan inspired an ensemble of five theater-makers, among them a circus artist, an opera singer, a veteran of STOMP, a Sazuki teacher, and a master clown. Together, in the spirit of the Jacques Lecoq School, they devised (collaboratively created) an 85-minute show, full of wonder and riotous comedy.
PIE IS A RECIPIENT of NEFA's National Theatre Project grant, with generous funding from the Andrew W. Mellon foundation. This 3-week run at q-Staff is the first stop on Grottesco's national tour!
Every show will be followed by a Q&A with the artists.
$5 preview performance on Wednesday January 10th!
Every Thursday is pay-what-you-wish
