Corrales has always been our bucolic neighbor to the north. With it's quiet tree-lined acequias and age-old habitations, it's the perfect place to take a break from the city. Chamber music is sorta like that too; it has the power and beauty to sweep listeners away to another more peaceful place. Thank heavens, then, for the Corrales Cultural Arts Council who created the Music in Corrales series in 1986 to bring such instances of wonder to the citizens of the area. The Council kicks off its 2018 season with a performance by the world-renowned Jasper String Quartet, an earthy and erudite ensemble out of Temple University charged with preserving and elucidating one of the most profound forms of musical expression in Western culture. On Friday, Jan. 26, join violinists J. Freivogel and Sae Chonabayashi, violist Sam Quintal and cellist Rachel Henderson Freivogel for a recital featuring the chamber works of Mozart, Beethoven and Debussy. The New Yorker heralded their performances as outstanding and exceptional; listeners in Burque may find that same truth evident by attending an event that begins at 7:30pm. Tickets are $22 to $25.
