“Theirs is to win …”
Old man winter gets serious in January in these parts, and as a consequence, our city's relatively large homeless population suffers. In order to assuage such societal problems, it's up to all citizens to engage and support projects that are aimed at caring for those less fortunate than ourselves. Weekly Alibi readers can do just that by attending the Midwinter Music Marathon on Saturday, Jan. 13. Sponsored by Albuquerque Healthcare for the Homeless, St. John's Music Ministries and local classical public radio station KHFM, 95.5, it's an all day event and one admission price of $25 (and just $10 for students) allows concert-goers the privilege of seeing as much of the event's work as they desire from noon to 8pm. Performers include local notables organist Maxine Thévenot, pianist Fred Sturm, The Bosque Bassoon Band, violist Kimberly Fredenburgh, Música Antigua de Albuquerque and Quintessence: Choral Artists of the Southwest. Delicious coffee and pastries from The Daily Grind are also available and all proceeds are destined to help Burque's less fortunate.
