Nelson Valdes lectures on Fidel and Raul Castro and the future of the Cuban revolution.


This lecture is part of the Spring 2018 People and Places series organized by the University Libraries Center for Southwest Research & Special Collections. All events are free and open to the public.

Lecture presenter:

Nelson Valdes arrived in Albuquerque from Cuba in 1961. He earned his Ph.D. in sociology and history and became a professor at the University of New Mexico. He founded and directed the university's Latin America Data Base in 1986. He is a Latin Americanist and Sociologist who specializes on Cuba and the US Southwest. He has written analytical and opinion pieces for numerous newspapers, magazines and academic journals.
