South Broadway Cultural Center's Night of the Arts Features Drawings, Jazz and a Movie

"Sketchy" Exhibit Curated by Long-Time Art Collector

Davis is an artist and architect who has collected art for more than 50 years. He was born in Chicago and educated at the University of Illinois. Moving to Santa Fe in 1972 and then Albuquerque in 1993, he has practiced sustainable architecture across the southwest. He began showing his art formally in 2012. He first curated an exhibit [of tattoo and graffiti art] in 1998. A Night of the Arts will also feature jazz music by Kookie Jones and The Groove Maneuvers, featuring Pax Garcia, Doug Bellen and Carli Marshall from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a showing of the movie "Nake Lunch" (1991).

Sketchy on South Broadway


“Drawing enables both the brain and the heart, perception and imagination,” curator Bruce Davis said of the simple feat, which is highlighted at Sketchy, a show opening on Thursday, Feb. 1 at the South Broadway Cultural Center (1025 Broadway SE). The exhibition celebrates the spontaneity, as well as the beauty of the simple practice. Sketchy is on display at the center until March 30, with a formal opening kicking off the show on Thursday, Feb. 1 from 5 to 8pm as part of the Night of the Arts, which also offers visitors refreshments and jazz from Kookie Jones and the Groove Maneuvers.
