Porvenir es ahora

Burqueños dig rock music. Burqueños dig hip-hop and electronica. But what the folks in this town really like—and if you don't believe me, check out the results from last years' Alibi Best of Burque Music readers poll—is la musica Latina. Bands like !Revíva¡, Burque Sol and Baracutanga are really and unarguably the most popular music ensembles in Duke City, N.M., and now gloriously indie—and frankly, sometimes cliquish—rock clubs like our city's beloved Sister Bar are finally getting hip to what's lo mas chingon in este part of the state. Evidence of that embrace of musical diversity comes clear when Sister hosts Carnaval Latino 2018 on Saturday, Feb. 10, beginning at 9pm. The Lenten holiday-themed event is hosted by the aforementioned Baracutanga and also features regional powerhouses like Denver's Mono Verde Collective and Tejano Cumbia masters Frontera Bugalú. Check out an evening of suave sonidas sureños for only $12 in advance and $15 dollars at the door, y ponemos chancla! (August March)
