AMPLIFY Faculty Dance Concert
Artistic Director Donna Jewell
Choreography by AGA Collaborative, Jesus Carmona, Vladimir Conde Reche, Donna Jewell, and Adrián Santana
Experience cutting-edge choreography in both contemporary dance and flamenco by international guest artists and UNM’s distinguished resident faculty in the faculty dance concert, AMPLIFY, February 23rd-March 4th in Rodey Theatre. The extraordinary talents of the students in the dance program are featured in this evening of works that are stirring, thought provoking, and wonderfully diverse. Shimmer by Donna Jewell, UNM’s Head of Dance and the concert’s artistic director, is inspired by the colors and imagery of Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. Bricolage by Vladimir Conde Reche is an abstract story of physicality and relationships. Anthem for a Porcelain Generation by the AGA Collaborative explores contemporary connectedness. Works on the program by international visiting guest artists in UNM’s unique Flamenco concentration include Catorce Dìas by Jesús Carmona, created during his two-week residency at UNM last spring and Málaga, inspired by the beautiful seaside hometown of choreographer, Adrián Santana, utilizing the traditional Bata de Cola, embroidered Spanish shawls, and fiery castanet work.
