Quilt collector Marjorie Childress shows a diverse collection of abstract quilted art with quirky lines and textile choices, and almost-accidental composition.
Meet Albuquerque quilt collector Marjorie Childress, whose diverse collection defines another dimension of “abstract art” with quirky lines and textile choices, and almost-accidental composition.
Selections from Marjorie’s collection are the featured exhibit for March 2018’s ARTSCrawl reception and exhibit at Hip Stitch from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2. Her collection is primarily organized through the lens of design and narrative, with an emphasis on improvisation, culture and remembrance. It includes groupings of quilts from the 1960-1970s, and quilts made from clothing, wool and denim, often patched. She also has 19th century quilts in her collected works. Her exhibit at Hip Stitch will include examples of both older and contemporary pieces.
