Deadly Sins

Sin Like Damn

When the first fish crawled onto the shore, panting and wheezing like a broken accordion, he stepped on his brother's head and pushed him back into the water. Oh boy, did it feel good! Ever since, we've been trying to quantify that sexy spice called “sin” with limited success. This Sunday, March 11, from 4:30 to 6:15pm, Música Antigua de Albuquerque is performing Seven Deadly Sins, a historical tour of mankind's shadow. Music—and sin-lovers—over 13 are invited to enjoy music from medieval and Renaissance sources and wonder what horrible secrets the ensemble hides. Tickets start at $10.

Música Antigua de Albuquerque performs a concert about the seven deadly sins and how they made their appearance in music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Música Antigua de Albuquerque will perform a concert about the “Seven Deadly Sins” and how they made their appearance in music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.  The sins are usually listed as pride (also known as vainglory), greed (avarice), lust, envy, gluttony (including drunkenness), wrath and sloth.  However, there have not
always been seven on the list and the specific sins have varied throughout history.  Música Antigua’s program will highlight works
from several medieval manuscript sources, and will also include a number of works from the Renaissance.  The musicians will perform both vocal and instrumental works, using period instruments, including violas da gamba, bladderpipe, gemshorn, vielles, rebec, sackbut, recorders, shawm, cornemusen, crumhorn, harp and lute.
