Oberlin College instructor Kendra Colton and Allison Voth, principal coach at Boston University’s Opera Institute bring their renowned vocals for the occasion.

Soprano Kendra Colton, whohas been a soloist with major orchestras, ensembles and festivals including the Boston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and San Francisco Symphony,will perform Italian repertoire with pianist Allison Voth at a free recital on Friday, April 20 at Simms Auditorium opening the Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival.

Colton will begin with some beautiful standard Italian repertoire traveling through Italy with works  by Donaudy, Torelli, and Giordani. She moves then to the ”Italienishes Liederbuch” by Hugo Wolf,  selections from “Mélodies de Venise,” by Gabriel Fauré and finally, a few Italian-Americans—Menotti, and Henry Mancini. You will not want to miss this recital on Friday evening in Simms Auditorium at 7 p.m..

Colton and Voth are two members of the guest faculty brought in from some of the top music schools in the country for the Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival. In addition to her singing career, Colton teaches at Oberlin College in Ohio. According to a review in the New York Times, Colton “carried herself like a goddess and sang radiantly and vividly.” Voth is an associate professor of music at Boston University’s School of Music, and principal coach at Boston University’s Opera Institute.

The Vocal Artistry Art Song Festival runs April 20-22, 2018 for its ninth year with the theme of Canzonette Italiane, or Italian Art Song. The weekend is filled with performances as pianists and singers perform Italian repertoire starting at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. High School and Mid School singers along with pianists perform on Saturday morning. The Adult division performs a recital at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. The Final Awards Concert and Reception awarding over $9,000 in Scholarship Awards is on Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. A complete schedule of events can be found at
