Spirit Adriftheavy metal

Tangled Up in Black

If you would like to know how they do metal over in the most hellishly hot city in the United States of America—otherwise known as Phoenix, Ariz.,—then drop whatever metallurgy project you're working on and head over to Sister to hear the band Spirit Adrift. They'll be banging their heads as if Satan is their best friend on Friday, April 6. These dudes have truly epic tuneage like “Earthbound,” “Graveside Invocation” and “Spectral Savior” under their studded leather belts and rock a style that floats effortlessly between classic metal mania and sick, sludgy stonerism. Albuquerque's Red Mesa, whose new album, The Devil and The Desert drops in June, open, whilst Baltimore's Witch Hat, a band that can for realz be called psych-punk doom rock because of compositions like “Sportswear Phantoms” and “Crocodile Mile” are also featured in an evening some Italian poet from the 13th century would have died for. The show begins at 8pm with a $10 cover for a 21+ audience. (August March)
