The Rough Diamond of Chamber Music
Like baseball, chamber music seems to come alive seasonally in the springtime; just as the first cherry blossoms start falling and perennials, like datura, start peeking their heads through the desert soil. All of this portends a florid summer with scintillating sounds simmering under a bright and beautiful New Mexico sky. The process begins with events at Chamber Music Albuquerque. They're presenting home run hitters violinist Jennifer Koh and pianist Shai Wosner who is exploring the connection between classicism and post-modernity with a recital that alternates well-known sonatas by Ludwig Van with compositions by Yale University composer Andrew Norman; Norman's new work has been heralded as “the best orchestral work that the 21st century has seen thus far.” The performance takes place at Simms Auditorium, on the campus at the Albuquerque Academy on Sunday, April 29, at 3pm, with tickets priced from $30 to $40.
