A spoken tour of the universe and cosmos with Patricia A. Henning, UNM Associate Vice President for Research and Professor of Physics and Astronomy.
Patricia A. Henning, UNM Associate Vice President for Research and Professor of Physics and Astronomy, is an extragalactic radio astronomer, specializing in the study of large-scale structure of the Universe behind the Milky Way.She and her collaborators, including UNM students, have discovered more than 1,000 galaxies using radio telescopes in Australia, Puerto Rico, and the Netherlands. She also studies the evolution of galaxies using observations done with the Very Large Array radio telescope in New Mexico.
This talk will be a guided tour of the Universe, considering the rich diversity of planets, stars, nebulae, and galaxies, ultimately finding our place in the cosmos. Prof. Henning will also describe the contributions of her group to our understanding of the map of galaxies around the Milky Way, a kind of cosmic cartography. nmphil.org
