“America’s hottest accordion player”, one of the country’s best “smart, sharp” new songwriters, a socially-conscious Latin party machine and more will all descend on the picturesque Village of Angel Fire, in the Moreno Valley of New Mexico for the inaugural Festival Eclectica on June 16 at Colfax County Airport, Angel Fire. Gates open at 4 PM, with music beginning around 5:15.
The new music festival will take place during the weekend of Balloons Over Angel Fire, the village’s annual hot air balloon celebration (June 15-17) to create a dazzling and extraordinary weekend of fun, food, and all kinds of amazing music - from Americana to Latin, Pop to Zydeco!
Tickets for Festival Eclectica are only $40.00 and available online at https://festivaleclectica.brownpapertickets.com. Also available in person at the Village of Angel Fire Visitor Center, Chamber of Commerce and Shuter Library or by phone at 575-377-6755. More info at www.FestivalEclectica.com.
The festival will feature renowned Zydeco accordionist, singer/songwriter and 2018 Grammy-nominee, Dwayne Dopsie (son of the legendary Zydeco pioneer Rockin’ Dopsie, Sr.) with his group the Zydeco Hellraisers. Dwayne is also a pioneer in his own right, performing a unique, high energy style of Zydeco, inspired by tradition, although defying existing stereotypes all while blazing a refreshingly distinct path for 21st century Zydeco music. It’s no wonder that Louisiana Travel named him #29 of the top 100 reasons to go to Louisiana!
Singer/songwriter, Taos native son and all around cosmic cowboy Max Gomez also joins the bill on the heels of his critically acclaimed CD Me and Joe that Rolling Stone called “smooth and sparkly...promising a newfound eclecticism” and a whirlwind national tour that has taken him from Taos to Nashville, LA to NYC, Austin to Chicago, and NOLA to Angel Fire! Max’s songs that have been compared to John Prine and Jackson Brown and the wise, world weariness of Kris Kristofferson.
The award-winning pan-Latin group Baracutanga, made up of members from Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and US, will also be on hand with their one-of-a-kind arrangements of traditional South American rhythms in new and interesting ways! Huayño and cumbia are mixed with Middle-Eastern darbuka while Afro-Cuban bata and Afro-Peruvian festejo collide with Andean zampoñas, creating a tasty Latin/World Beat stew that will simply not allow you to keep still!
Festival Eclectica will be rounded out by the poppy, hook-laden melodicism of Karma Frog Recording Artist Rob Martinez and Friends - Acoustic andthe diverse multifarious carnival stylings of Banda Atomica (look for their early morning parade during the balloon ascension on Saturday!)
You will also be able to enjoy tasty snacks and meals from our “Enchanted Circle of Food Vendors” along with one-of-a-kind arts and crafts from our eclectic array of New Mexico Artisan vendors.
