Native Roots coordinates educational classes and workshops based on land-based spirituality, self-care, and community healing. Our summer classes provide a remarkable opportunity for people to meet with seven extraordinary traditional healers from around New Mexico. This includes Flordemayo who is one of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers, and Emigdio Ballon who is director of the Institute of Natural and Traditional Knowledge and Agricultural Director of the Pueblo of Tesuque. Emigdio was also featured in the documentary “Seeds”, Lakota Sundance Chief Howard Badhand is a writer of several novels. CuranderaTonita Gonzales, Ana Chavez instructor at the University of New Mexico, and Henrietta Gomez from Taos Pueblo will also be teachers in the series.
Classes will take place on Sundays from 10-3pm at the Tierra Drala Permaculture farm in El Prado, NM (Taos County). A different teacher will present each day. Cost is $350 for all seven classes, or three classes for $250. Classes are open to tribal members of New Mexico on a donation basis.
