A collection of objects and stories from Asian and Pacific Islander Americans that provide intimate windows into traditional origins and the American experience.
Journeys, Judgment and Jubilation: Stories of Identity from the Albuquerque Asian/Pacific Islander Communities is a collection of objects and stories from Asian & Pacific Islander Americans that provide intimate windows into traditional origins and the American experience. The public is invited for a special evening to share their own personal objects and related stories of origin and identity with community members.
According to Psychology Today, “brief autobiographical storytelling exercises can have substantial (positive) impacts on psychological and physical health even months after the storytelling.” Research has shown that the impact not only benefits the storyteller, but also the listener. Sharing stories strengthens human ties and empathy by helping us to find common ground. By sharing a chuckle or a tear, we connect with our humanity and build relationships. These outcomes contribute to healthy communities.
In the spirit of the Journeys, Judgment and Jubilation exhibit, interested story sharers can bring an object to serve as the focal point of your personal, autobiographical story. Each guest will have 5-7 minutes to tell their story followed by a few minutes of questions and conversation with listeners. Sign in begins at 6:00 pm and story sharing begins at 6:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to bring a nibble to share.
