Free watercraft vessel safety checks offered by US Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Vessel Examiners from Flotilla 24 check a sailboat for required safety equipment at Cochiti Lake.

Free watercraft vessel safety checks will be offered by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (USCGAUX) Flotilla 24 in honor of Safe Boating Week 2018 at Cabela's in Albuquerque on May 26, 2018. Certified Vessel Safety Examiner's will be located under the USCGAUX canopy in front of the store located at 5151 Lang Ave NE. Both motor and sail boats may be brought to the safety check station anytime between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM to make sure that the vessel has all the required safety equipment to operate on state and federal waters in New Mexico. There is no charge for the safety check and there is no consequence if the boat does not pass inspection. The boat owner will be provided with information on what is needed to pass the safety inspection in the future. The goal is to make boating as safe as possible for boaters, their families, and their friends. Typically, Vessel Examiners are at lakes in the state on specified weekends throughout the summer, so having them available for safety checks within the city is a bonus for local residents. For further information about this event or vessel safety advice, contact Tom DeForest at 505-297-9267 or Mary Reinhardt at 505-715-6682.
