Honoring the illustrious career of Mr. Heath with a concert including Jeb Patton and David Wong.

sponsored by Southwest Gastroenterology Associates

Each year, the New Mexico Jazz Festival honors legendary jazz artists living here in New Mexico This year, (in addition to Dave Grusin who will be honored on July 22 at the Lensic), we honor drummer Albert “Tootie” Heath, who has lived in Santa Fe for the past several years. A true jazz legend and the youngest of the three musical Heath brothers (Percy, Jimmy, Tootie), he played drums on John Coltrane’s first album as a leader, and was the last drummer for the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet. He performed regularly with artists ranging from Don Cherry, Benny Golson and Dexter Gordon to Herbie Hancock, Sonny Rollins, Cedar Walton and others. At the age of 82, he continues to perform regularly in New Mexico and worldwide. Accompanying Mr. Heath in this concert is his NYC trio featuring Jeb Patton, piano; and David Wong, bass.
