The founder, bandleader, composer and arranger of one of Albuquerque’s most popular and longstanding salsa bands, Son Como Son, brings his jazz project to support the venue.

A Benefit for Outpost's Education Programs!

At the generous suggestion of César Bauvallet, Jim Ahrend & Kanoa Kaluhiwa (Outpost's teaching staff) this afternoon's concert is a benefit for Outpost's educational and youth programs. The founder and bandleader of one of Albuquerque’s most popular and longstanding (25 years!) salsa bands, Son Como Son, trombonist, percussionist, composer and arranger, César Bauvallet, who teaches Outpost’s popular Latin Music Classes for youth and adults, returns to the Space with his Cuban Jazz Project which was born in the 2017 New Mexico Jazz Festival. Featuring a unique mix of talents, including two fellow Outpost Jazz Education instructors, pianist, Jim Ahrend and tenor saxophonist, Kanoa Kaluhiwa; plus Janet Harman (Son Como Son), bass; César and Janet’s son, Danilo Bauvallet, drums; and special guest and longtime friend of César, Raciel Tortoló (Team Havana), percussion, the project draws from each of its member’s musical experiences ranging from bebop to timba as well as performing Bauvallet’s inspired original compositions and dynamic arrangements of Cuban and jazz standards. As Bauvallet describes it, “This will not be your ordinary Latin Jazz concert!”
