The story of a celebrated film director and his attempts to find a plot for his next film as he is pursued by hordes of beautiful women, all clamoring to be loved by him alone.

Musical Theatre Southwest, Albuquerque’s premiere Community Theater, is proud to announce its production of the acclaimed musical, Nine.

This spectacular musical delighted Broadway theatergoers in a Tony Award-winning revival in 2003 starring Antonio Banderas. Nine is the story of a celebrated film director Guido Contini and his attempts to come up with a plot for his next film as he is pursued by hordes of beautiful women, all clamoring to be loved by him and him alone. Flashbacks reveal the substance of his life that will become the material for his next film: a musical version of the Casanova story.

Originally produced in 1982, Nine won Tony Awards for Best Musical with a book by Arthur Kopit and a beautiful score by Maury Yeston.

Nine had been adapted into a major motion picture from Rob Marshall, the acclaimed director of the 2002 film version of Chicago. Of the Broadway musical, Marshall said it is “a sumptuous and emotional work that translates naturally to the film musical genre because of its seamless relationship between fantasy and reality. From Broadway to Film and back to live Theatre, you won’t want to miss this exciting show.

Nine is directed by Robb Anthony Sisneros, who has also directed many favorite shows for MTS including Jekyll & Hyde, Tapestry, Legally Blonde, Civil War, Bat Boy, The Last 5 Years, and I Love You - You’re Perfect, Now Change! Working with Mr. Sisneros are Colin Burdge as Music Director and Michelle Eiland as Choreographer, both of whom are familiar performers on the MTS stage.

The cast features Jonathan Gallegos as Guido, Allen Dominguez as Young Guido, Christine Smith as Claudia, Courtney Awe as Luisa, Kir Kipness as Carla, Angela Robinson as Mother, Deirdre Garvey as Maddelena, Lacey Bingham as Lillian, Ashley Lopez as Sarraghina, Rebecca Grace as Stephanie, Meghan Chavez and Lina and featuring Eibhlin Brennan, Emma Elliot, Devon Griste, Kelly Mar, Shirley Roach, and Katherine Robinson in the ensemble.

Nine opens Friday, August 3 and runs through August 26, 2018, Fridays & Saturdays: 7:30 PM, Sundays: 2:00 PM at the MTS Center for Theatre, 6320 Domingo Rd NE Ste B, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
