2,500 Volunteers Needed for Veteran’s Golden Age Games
The ONLY national sports and recreational eventfor the quality of life for senior Veterans of all abilities
ALBUQUERQUE – New Mexican volunteers are needed to offer a welcome and bienvenidos to over 1,000 veterans from 48 states at the 32nd Annual National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG). This year’s games will take place Aug. 3-8, 2018, in Albuquerque at various venues throughout Central New Mexico.
“The ultimate success of this event will depend on our ability to recruit a large number of volunteers from the community,” said Jerhald “Jery” Burgoa, Local Organizing Committee Chairman for the 2018 NVGAG. “We’re asking local organizations and individuals to help us by providing about 2,500 volunteers. We also are in need of sponsors for the Games to help cover the tremendous costs related to this event.”
The “Games of Enchantment” will offer ambulatory, visually impaired and wheelchair divisions, with each divided into age categories. Competition events include:
Ÿbasketball Ÿair rifle Ÿtrack Ÿbadminton (singles and doubles)
Ÿbowling Ÿpickleball Ÿgolf Ÿboccia (singles and doubles)
Ÿhorseshoes Ÿnine ball Ÿcycling Ÿfield (discus, javelin, shot put)
Ÿpower walk Ÿshuffleboard Ÿswimming Ÿtable tennis
Volunteers can avoid lines for sign-up on the days of the events by signing up on www.veteransgoldenagegames.va.gov; click on the VOLUNTEER tab. Volunteers will work with official referees to help the event run smoothly and will receive training before each event.
