Open mic and poetry slam for 21 and up! Vendors, DJ and specials at the bar and kitchen all night! With a special poetry feature by Toluwanimi Obiwole from Denver Slam Nuba! 

Toluwanimi Oluwafunmilayo Obiwole is a Nigerian-born, Colorado-raised poet, educator, and organizer. She was Denver's first Youth Poet Laureate in 2015-2016. Since then, she has completed her Bachelor's degree in Ethnic Studies and toured/performed nationally.

Burque Revolt is an organization that connects people using poetry and a community that honors the stories/art/poetry of women, people of color, LGBTQ, youth and any and all intersections of those identities.

Slam Time

Say you’re a poet, you know it and you believe that people not only in Albuquerque, but in other parts of the country would like to see you to show it, then post-haste you should head on down to the Burque Revolt Poetry Slam LAST Chance SLAM this Thursday. As the name implies, this is your last chance to qualify for the Burque Revolt Poetry Slam Battle from whence poets will be chosen to represent Albuquerque in regional slams throughout the summer. Join poets from around Albuquerque and beyond this Thursday, April 4 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Canvas Artistry (3120 Central SE). This event is free. Take a deep breath of the next generation as 17-year-old slam poet Emily Jaramillo-Leyba takes the mic for the last Respira show of the year at Red Planet Books & Comics (1002 Park Ave. SW) on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4pm. Captain of the Indigenous poetry group Rez Spit, Jaramillo-Leyba brings her solo work to Red Planet for this free, all-ages Burque Revolt event.
