coffee rings is a series of relief prints by Robert Stokowy. Following a written score, monotypes were made with brewed coffee and mugs. Robert investigated the sonic potential of forms that resulted from this process. The visual artifacts become a silent sonic piece, while they also can be read and interpreted as a visual score for further productions (sound installations, performances in dance & sound). For this performance two scores with sets of four prints for each performer were compiled. Here the circularity of the score is used as a chance to enter [german: eindringen - to get through, to reach, to urge] the form to explore its structure's characteristics. Performing becomes a practice through which performers & audience alike can experience the print’s visual & sonic inner being - the Ding an sich. The visual is transformed into a sonic entity that offers a new chance for perceiving & understanding.
