All roles are open and available

Shrek – (Male, 25-45) Our story’s title character. A big, green, terrifying ogre who lives alone on a swamp. He embarks on a journey to rid his land of fairytale creatures and, along the way, falls in love with Fiona. Begins as a grumpy hermit but reveals his layers and eventually becomes the hero. (Vocal Range A2-G#4 Tenor, Baritone)

Fiona – (Female, 20-30) The beautiful princess of Far Far Away, she transforms into an ogre every night when the sun sets. Rescued by Shrek and eventually falls in love with him. Quirky, blunt, and multitalented, she is not an ordinary princess. **Fiona dances the most of any of the main characters. We would love for her to have some tap/jazz/Fosse experience.(Vocal Range F3-G5 Soprano)

Donkey – (Male or Female, 20-35) A talking donkey who joins Shrek on the run from Farquaad’s guards. Quite the chatterbox, he is not deterred by Shrek’s looks and practically forces himself into his good graces. He is easily frightened and pushy, but also optimistic with a big heart. Must be a strong comedic actor/actress. (Vocal Range C3-B4 Alto or Tenor)

Lord Farquaad – (Male, 30-45) The comically short, ruthless ruler of Duloc. He is in search of a princess to marry so that he can become king. Has an intensely unfair bias against fairytale creatures that stems from a resentment of his father. Self-absorbed, lonely, and cruel. This actor must be comfortable on his knees for the duration of the show.  (Vocal Range B2-D5 Baritone)

Dragon – (Female, 25-45) A dragon that has been charged with guarding Princess Fiona in her isolated castle. She eventually falls in love with Donkey and attempts to keep him there forever. Imposing and flirtatious, but tired of her job as the glorified baby-sitter. (Vocal Range F3-Eb5 Alto)

Gingy – (Female, 20-40) A gingerbread man initially kidnapped by Lord Farquaad. His wit and resolution help him both avoid trouble and inspire the rest of the fairytale creatures. Puppet. This actress will also double as Sugar Plum Fairy.(Vocal Range B3-C#5Soprano/Mezzo Soprano)

Pinocchio – (Male, 20-40) The leader of the fairytale creatures. He is an animated puppet whose nose grows every time he lies. Plenty of sass with a penchant for lying. (Vocal Range E3-F#4 Tenor)

Teen Fiona- (Female, 13-19) A true romantic.  Believes that she will be rescued by her true love. She is tired of the middle bits of the stories she reads and is ready to get out of that tower and start her life as the Royal she is meant to be. Teen Fiona is featured in one musical number (I Know it’s Today) and will also double into the ensemble. (Soprano)

Young Fiona- (Female, 8-12) Precocious.  Believes the fairy tale and wants to be rescued.  Once she is locked in her tower she realizes the reality of being a damsel in distress.  Full of hope.  Believes that she will be rescued by her true love. Young Fiona has a cameo in the opening number and is featured in one song (I Know it’s Today) and will also double in the ensemble. (Soprano)

Fairytale Creatures/Dancers – A diverse group of character actors; should possess strong vocal and acting abilities. Some dancing will be included.Need to be able to show a consistent character throughout production. Looking specifically for dancers with Jazz and Tap experience.  There are many different levels of dance ability needed for this show.  If you are not proficient in Jazz or Tap, please do not let that discourage you from auditioning.
