The Elephant in the Room

Poetry, snacks, arts and crafts, and more are going down this Saturday evening, Dec. 15, at Tortuga Gallery (901 Edith Blvd. SE) for the “poetry event of the year,” at the Swimming with Elephants Soiree. Swimming with Elephants publications is a local nonprofit literary organization, supporting poetry throughout the city. Their publications have included works by Jessica Helen Lopez, Zachary Kluckman and more. At this particular event, which will run from 6 to 9pm, more than a dozen poets will mingle while some vend wares (not just books—but things like ornaments, T-shirts as well). A $5 donation gets you in the door and a first row seat for all the festivities—including a slide show, music and readings. As a bonus, the money goes right back to supporting this phenomenal homegrown organization.
