Swimming with Elephants Publications celebrates five years with music, food and poetry and features Poet Laureate alumni, Manuel Gonzalez, Jessica Helen Lopez and more.

Join Swimming with Elephants Publications as we celebrate five years of small press publishing with music, food, and poetry. This event will feature ABQ Poet Laureate alumni, Manuel Gonzalez, ABQ Poet Laureate alumni, Jessica Helen Lopez, and quite a few other local poets who have been published with our small press. We will have a variety of our publications for sale, including our new anthology, Parade. The event is open to the public and free. Donations to the press are encouraged. Attendees who donate $5 or more will receive a free Swag Bag. Help us celebrate five years.

The Elephant in the Room

Poetry, snacks, arts and crafts, and more are going down this Saturday evening, Dec. 15, at Tortuga Gallery (901 Edith Blvd. SE) for the “poetry event of the year,” at the Swimming with Elephants Soiree. Swimming with Elephants publications is a local nonprofit literary organization, supporting poetry throughout the city. Their publications have included works by Jessica Helen Lopez, Zachary Kluckman and more. At this particular event, which will run from 6 to 9pm, more than a dozen poets will mingle while some vend wares (not just books—but things like ornaments, T-shirts as well). A $5 donation gets you in the door and a first row seat for all the festivities—including a slide show, music and readings. As a bonus, the money goes right back to supporting this phenomenal homegrown organization.
