No Thanks, No Giving: Potluck and Teach-In

Thanksgiving is an important time for many families to come together and express their gratitude for each other and the bounty of their year—but it is also a reminder of the genocide that English colonizers perpetrated against the Native American tribes that helped them survive those first lean years on the continent. Yeah, the history textbooks really painted the first Thanksgiving in a sunny light, but hopefully you don’t believe everything you read in elementary school. On Thursday, Nov. 22 The Red Nation and the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico hosts a potluck and teach-in for those who would like to enjoy community and educate themselves at the same time. Starting at 5pm, head to the Sundowner Community Center (6101 Central Ave. NE) with a dish to share and your own plate and utensils (to minimize waste). Breaking bread with your people is an important part of building community and avoiding burnout—so come hungry, compañerxas.
