Honoring five amazing black women that have recently received tenu anred professorships at UNM with the 2019 Frederick Douglass Award.
About the Cotton Club Scholarship Gala
In 2011, members of the Albuquerque Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Inc. came together with the newly formed NM Black History Organizing Committee to create a signature event to herald the accomplishments of Black educators in New Mexico and raise money to support the Judith R Harris Scholarship Fund. We’ve moved the event to March to celebrate Women’s History Month, and what better way to celebrate than to pay homage to the Queen of Soul with this year’s theme: R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
In honor of Women’s History Month we’ll be honoring five amazing Black women, who have just received tenure and professorships at the University of New Mexico, with our 2019 Frederick Douglass Award- Dr. Sonia Gipson Rankin, Dr. Myra Washington, Dr. Claudia Isaacs, Dr. Melanie Moses, and Dr. Nancy Lopez.
