La Catrina String Quartet plays live with a program including String Quartet No.17 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Quartet in C Minor by Paquito D’Rivera, Payadora by Julián Plaza and Viola Quintet in C Major, Op. 29, by Beethoven.

The Placitas Artists Series is pleased to welcome back La Catrina String Quartet for the upcoming “Willy Sucre and Friends” concert at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2019. The LCSQ, quartet-in-residence at New Mexico State University, tours widely in Mexico and the U.S., often performing recently composed works by contemporary composers from throughout the Americas. They also enjoy presenting rarely performed works by Latin American composers and “bringing fresh interpretation to classical, romantic and twentieth century works.” Their CD “Brasilero” won a 2012 Latin Grammy for Best Classical Recording. The ensemble last appeared in Placitas in March 2017.

The March 17 program includes String Quartet No. 17 by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Quartet in c minor by Paquito D’Rivera, “Payadora” by Julián Plaza and the Viola Quintet in C Major, Op. 29, by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The members of La Catrina String Quartet are violinists Daniel Vega-Albela and Simón Gollo, violist Jorge Martínez Ríos and cellist Jorge Espinoza. Violist Willy Sucre will join them on the Beethoven quintet.
