Join fellow athletes, meet new people, dance at The Runner’s Ball, a fundraiser to benefit Running 505, the Albuquerque wellness program that pairs kids with mentors to make exercise a strategy for a healthy and successful life. The Runner’s Ball is a 21+ event and will be held Friday, April 5, 2019 at Hotel Parq Central, 806 Central Ave SE. Get to know other athletes as you enjoy food, a live DJ, raffles from local shops like Lilly Barrack and a gym membership from Cantina Crossfit, and bid on fun items and services at the silent auction. This is a fun way to learn more about running in Abq and support a local nonprofit.

Running 505 is a nonprofit program that teaches kids to use running, healthy choices, and peer support to manage stress in daily life. Each week during the school year, the Running 505 kids run with adult mentors, hear expert talks about nutrition and health, all while training together to race in local races, from 5Ks to half marathons. Because of Running 505, a group of boys and girls in Albuquerque have built a support system that leads to better grades in school and kids who are more involved in their local community. The program started in 2014 with 8 girls and over the past five years grew to over 40 boys and girls.

Get your race bib for entry into the Runner’s Ball through Active.com (search Runner’s Ball 2019). Individual tickets are $30 and couples are $50, and all sales from the event will fund running gear for the kids, including sneakers and shorts, as well as race entries. “Packet pick-up” is at Sports Systems Thursday, April 4th. In collaboration with Abq Sole Sisters, the 2019 Runner’s Ball is sponsored by Trail Dog and Sport Systems.
