PLACITAS PUBLIC STAR PARTY
THE ALBUQUERQUE ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY
SATURDAY, APRIL 13TH - 6:00-10:00PM
PLACITAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GROUNDS
Our popular spring Placitas Public Star Party will be held on the grounds of the Placitas Elementary School with excellent dark skies. The generous volunteers and staff of the school will manage parking and offer the use of their fine facility with restrooms and water. The TAAS telescopes will begin setting up well before dusk, so please come early to park and talk with our members before observing begins between 7:00 and 8:00pm. Sunset will be at 7:31pm, and the Moon and Mars will be out, along with deep-sky targets. TAAS Event Owners are Jim Roucis and Larry O'Hanlon, who will coordinate the activities.
Bring a jacket for any chill in the night air and only use red lights in your headlamps or flashlights to save the night vision of all. We look forward to seeing you, no matter what age, and showing off the spring night skies of New Mexico!
Directions: Take I-25 to exit 242, Highway 165, and proceed east for 6.5 miles to the Placitas Elementary School on the left and turn left there onto the school's one way driveway loop - 5 Cam de Carbon
On your way to the school along highway 165, you will pass the Placitas Library and Placitas Fire Department on the left and further down the road, the Placitas Post Office on the right...look for the school sign just after you pass the post office.
