"Telescopes and What They Show" - John W. Briggs - Magdalena astronomer and TAAS Member

The program will describe John's favorite memories from a lifetime experience using a variety of telescopes, presented in a fashion to encourage all observers in their own ongoing adventures.

The lecture will be illustrated with examples of interesting instruments from all over the country, including remarkable homemade ones that have appeared at telescope-making conventions and star parties like Stellafane and the Riverside Telescope Makers Conference. Also featured will be selected instruments from the collection of the Astronomical Lyceum in Magdalena.

While the presentation will include descriptions of hardware, the emphasis will be on exactly what the hardware allows seeing....but sublime views do not necessarily require large telescopes, as John hopes to illustrate with interesting anecdotes and images.
