Local artist, Leslie R. Kryder, opens first solo show at Napoli Coffee. This series is inspired by the beauty and color of rocks. Working in oils and several kinds of paper, Ms. Kryder created partially abstracted explorations of color, texture, and form suggested by stones and stone formations, which she encountered during hikes in New Mexico and a recent trip to Scotland.
Ms. Kryder has been painting since 2010 and works primarily in oils. She is a member of the Albuquerque-based Rainbow Artists, a women’s collaborative (www.rainbowartists.com).
The Cairns of Clava, east of Inverness, Scotland, are believed to be from the Bronze Age. Shaped like a donut, each cairn is about 30 ft. across, with an open center surrounded by a ring of piled stones that exceeds 6 ft. in height. Archaeologists speculate that the cairns were built as tombs, although no remains have been found. A ring of standing stones surrounds each cairn.
