Granny's Smoking Crawdads Again
Cajun culture and BBQ specialties will be available for inspection, interaction and consumption at this year's Crawdaddy Blues Fest out in Madrid, on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19 at the storied Mine Shaft Tavern. It's the thirteenth year for this event—a fete where crawdad smoking goes hand in hand with tasty blues sets performed by acts that include Chris Dracup, Billy D and the Hoodoos, Stewart Welles, Key Frances, Jim Almand, Felix Y Los Gatos, Levi Platero, the Partizani Brass Band, Mark's Midnight Carnival Show, the Rudy Boy Experiment and Hillary Smith and Chillhouse. Here's what's on the other menu: Festival organizers bring in crawdads raised in organic rice beds for your eatin' pleasure! In addition to crawfish boil, crawfish corn pie, crawfish boudain, green chile-blue crab cakes, boiled and fried Gulf shrimp, chicken and sausage gumbo, Texas BBQ ribs, brisket and smoked pork are available. There's a $25 entry fee, and the action begins at noon on both days at this all-ages crustacean- and music-soaked extravaganza in the mountains north of town. Advance tickets available at crawdaddybluesfest.com.
