SANTA FE AUTHORS CELEBRATE SCI-FI & YA URBAN FANTASY SATURDAY, JUNE 8, AT PAGE ONE BOOKS
Science fiction/alternate history author S.M. Stirling and young adult fantasy author Emily Mah - both from Santa Fe - join forces 4:00 pm Saturday, June 8, to celebrate releases of their new novels at Page One Books. Stirling is promoting the second book in his alternate World War series, "Theater of Spies," while Mah's latest young-adult fantasy novel is "Chasing Sunrise: The Sunrise Prophecy Book 1."
Stirling's latest effort is described as such: "The second novel in an alternate history series where Teddy Roosevelt is president once more right before WWI breaks out, and on his side is the Black Chamber, a secret spy network watching America's back. After foiling a German plot to devastate America's coastal cities from Boston to Galveston, crack Black Chamber agent Luz O'Malley and budding technical genius Ciara Whelan go to California to recuperate. But their well-deserved rest is cut short by the discovery of a diabolical new weapon that could give the German Imperial Navy command of the North Sea. Luz and Ciara must go deep undercover and travel across a world at war, and live under false identities in Berlin itself to ferret out the project's secrets. Close on their trail is the dangerous German agent codenamed Imperial Sword, who is determined to get his revenge, and a band of assault-rifle equipped stormtroopers, led by the murderously efficient killer Ernst Röhm. From knife-and-pistol duels on airships to the horrors of the poison-gas factories to harrowing marine battles in the North Sea, the fight continues--with a world as the prize."
Mah's "Chasing Sunrise" is teased as such: "Liana Linacre thought she was in love, but what begins as her fantasy romance ends with a curse that threatens her life and everything she loves. Orphaned and alone, she must flee from the dark forces that want her soul.Corban Alexander belongs to an ancient order of vampire hunters and wants to kill everyone who is demon-touched.The only way for Liana to survive is to outsmart the ancient evil that wants her dead, while Corban must decide if he can love a girl who made the one mistake he believes is unforgivable. If they can work together, they might just prevail in an age-old fight that evil has always won."
Stirling is a French-born Canadian-American "New York Times" bestselling science fiction and fantasy author. A former lawyer and an amateur historian, he is probably best known for his "Draka" series of alternate history novels, and his later time travel/alternate history Nantucket series and Emberverse ("Change") series. The first book in his "Alternate World War" series, "Black Chamber," was released last July. He lives in Santa Fe with his wife.
Emily Mah Tippetts writes science fiction and fantasy as Emily Mah and chick lit as E.M. Tippetts. In her previous career, she was an attorney who specialized in contracts, real estate, and estate planning, with a specialty in literary estate planning. Nowadays she's a full time mother and writer living in northern New Mexico, which is also where she grew up.
