Spend the afternoon in partner exercises practicing active listening, reflective responding and speaking strategies.

In our chatty American culture, conversations often resemble monologues instead of dialogues. Social media offers a forum for self-expression but doesn’t necessarily include constructive communication to build understanding. National polls suggest that Americans have difficulty speaking with each other and are polarized because of differing viewpoints. We can do better by improving our communication skills with family, friends and community associates.

Participants will spend the afternoon in partner exercises practicing active listening, reflective responding and speaking strategies.

Skill building will focus on the importance of speaking to, not at, our listeners; communication as a two-way process; triggers; the role of agreement and boundaries.
